Introduction
Egypt is a country with a history that goes back into
time for more than 7000 years. The consciousness of the Egyptian people is
constituted by this history. They are very proud people who are deeply involved
in their religion and culture. Furthermore they are very hospitable people who
treat tourists without prejudices.
The Red Sea is so to speak our own tropical home.
Within a few hours you can fly from Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam) to Egypt. If
you chose for Egypt or the neighbor country Israel (also at the Red Sea), it
makes little difference in the time to fly. In general it takes 5 to 6 hours,
depending from an eventual stopover.
Since a few years I opt for Hurghada in Egypt because
of the politic stability of this Arabic country. Therefore the economic
development – and namely in the little hamlets at the Read Sea coast – is
not insignificant. The meanwhile the best known places - several years ago still
minor fishing hamlets like Hurghada and Sharm el Sheik - developed into big
tourist places who can compare with any international tourist city. The still
growing number of tourists from all over the world, but mainly out of West
Europe, can find anything here that is part of a well-earned vacation.
The main group of tourists are divers, followed by
skin-divers and finally the ‘regular’ people who love to sunbath.
For the holidaymakers Egypt has the following to offer:
1.
All year long: sunshine!
2.
7000 years of history and culture (the Pyramids, the Nile, old graves
etc).
3.
Warm and crystal clear salt water.
4.
Countless and magnificent reefs in front of almost any hotel.
5.
Under water you can see an uncountable amount of organism in any color.
6.
A facemask and flippers already are sufficient to enjoy all these
goodies.
On the photo: here you can clearly see how near a reef
reaches to the surface of the water!
For those for whom this view is not enough but who not
(yet) have a diving patent, this is no problem either. You can achieve an
international certified diving patent within a few days. This first patent is a
so-called OW (Open Water) patent and it allows you to dive anywhere on this
world down to 18 meter deep. The most interesting depth for a seawater Aquarian
is down to 15 meter thus – in other words – this OW patent is more than
sufficient!
Sometimes one asks me if it is essential to dive into
the Red Sea. I can firmly deny this! So why get the diving patent than? Well,
the tremendous affluence of living organism and all the colorful things that we
see while we snorkel, increase human’s natural curiosity and the desire to
look at this ‘underwater garden’ more precise!
